We know how things feel right now. We get to work, we turn on the computer and we wait, and wait. Sometimes we can almost finish our team handover and the computer still isn't ready!
By the time you’ve battled through multiple slow-loading screens, typed in half a dozen different passwords and waited for separate legacy systems to load, a huge chunk of time has already vanished. Trying to log in, juggling passwords, dealing with frozen screens, waiting for systems to load and copying patient details from one programme to another is a frustrating way to start the day.
Our new EPR is designed to change that. One of the benefits is that it's designed to not only be simpler, but quicker too. Instead of using lots of separate systems, almost everything will be in one place, reducing the need to track down many different files or switch between multiple logins.
By replacing many of our current systems with one central system, stored in a secure cloud and shared across the Group, those painfully slow log-ins should become a thing of the past.
Right now, staff have to constantly log in and out of different systems to help patients through their hospital journey. Whether that’s checking a bed state, requesting a test, looking for results, updating information, checking a waiting list or organising a therapy or outpatient follow up; there can be multiple systems - and sheets of paper - involved with every patient.
Because our EPR, using MEDITECH Expanse, will connect all three Trusts, speedier searches will open a patient’s history. When a patient arrives from a neighbouring Norfolk hospital, their up-to-date data will be there. The time spent chasing paper charts or manually re-keying data from forms will be almost eliminated.
With the new cloud-based system, staff will log into MEDITECH easily, rather than trying to share computers. They can view test results and update files swiftly, and it should also mean far fewer phone calls trying to gather information - and fewer interruptions from colleagues seeking information.
We know that as everyone learns the new platform, workflows will initially feel a bit unfamiliar. But as confidence grows, MEDITECH Expanse will give back the time you currently lose waiting for computers to load. Ultimately, less time spent fighting with slow technology means less daily stress and a much smoother day.
