What is the EPR?

EPR stands for Electronic Patient Record. The EPR is a digital system to manage clinical information, making it easily available for use by health and care staff.

The new EPR system for our three acute hospitals in Norfolk and Waveney is a game-changing step in our transformation plans for the care of our patients. The system will reduce the reliance on paper notes, streamlining systems across the region's acute hospitals and giving staff one secure digital record for every patient.

With the latest, up to date information about their patients at their fingertips, clinicians can make faster, better-informed decisions - leading to safer, more joined-up care for patients.

Our EPR system is being supplied by Meditech Expanse and Teams from all three trusts are working together to make sure the system works for everyone. ​

The EPR programme will mean many of the hospitals current paper systems and notes are switched to digital notes, held securely in one system for many of our clinical and operational services. Some services will continue to use specialist systems, which will link into the EPR for information sharing.

This digital patient record solution is part of a national ambition the government has to revolutionise how information is stored to offer better joined-up care for patients. It is also a critical part of the  Joint Acute Clinical Strategy  for the  Norfolk and Waveney University Hospitals Group. ​​

• James Paget University Hospital (JPUH)
