Home › Staff › Role: External Stakeholders & System Partners

Our EPR doesn’t just change things inside our trusts. It may change how information moves between us and our partners.

Our EPR goes live on 22 and 23 May 2027. We now meet regularly with GPs, practice managers, the Local Medical Committee and the Integrated Care Board to prepare for it.

Partners will get advance notice ahead of major milestones, so you have time to plan your own response. You’ll also have a named contact rather than a general update sent to everyone. This reflects how we already work together, through briefings, governance forums and direct correspondence.

We’ll keep you informed as we approach go-live, and we’ll work with you to manage any impact on shared pathways and processes between our organisations.

External Stakeholders & System Partners FAQs

  • What is the plan to integrate EPR into med school and PGME simulation teaching?

Students will be offered the same training as their qualified counterparts ahead of starting placements. RBAC (role-based access control) will limit their access to these elements until they qualify.

  • Who is helping to shape how information flows between hospitals and practices?

The System Readiness and Integration Group brings together hospital teams, GPs, practice managers, the Local Medical Committee and the Integrated Care Board. It meets regularly to prepare for go-live, including how letters are written, how information reaches practices and what practices need to know in advance.

  • Can practices test the new EPR’s letters before go-live?

Testing with practices has started. We have sent test discharge summaries from the new EPR to a small number of practices, and we plan to do more before go-live. If your practice would like to take part, please get in touch.

  • Is anything changing for ICE?

Not for primary care and community colleagues at go-live. ICE, the system practices use to request tests and see results, stays as it is for you.

  • Will hospital letters and discharge summaries look different?

They may. The new EPR creates letters in a different way, so layout and content can change. We are working with GPs, practice managers, the Local Medical Committee and the Integrated Care Board on letter templates. We will share example letters with partners before go-live and are seeking feedback at our regular meetings.

  • Will GP practices need to change their clinical systems?

No. Practices keep the clinical systems they use today. The change happens inside our hospitals. What your practice may notice is how hospital letters and other information arrive, and we are working with practices on that now.

  • Which hospital services will use the new EPR?

The EPR is a single system shared by Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals, James Paget University Hospitals and The Queen Elizabeth Hospital King’s Lynn. Most hospital services will move to it at go-live. A small number of specialist departments will stay on their current systems at first, and we will confirm which ones as plans are finalised.

  • Will community and external staff have access to the EPR?

We know that community and external staff having access to patient records is critical to support patient flow. They will have EPR access that is comparative with their current access to digital systems.

  • What are the clinical benefits of an EPR for healthcare professionals

The EPR offers a quick overview of how patient care plans are progressing, including comments or action plans from other team members, saving valuable clinical time searching for information across several paper and electronic notes.

  • When will our EPR go live?

The current planning assumption is the weekend of 22-23 May 2027, with all sites and clinics of all three trusts going live together (a "unified" go live).

  • Is our EPR an off-the-shelf system?

No. Meditech is described as a “kit of parts” that is being built to suit the group’s needs rather than ready out of the box. Some elements of our EPR will be firsts for the NHS, including maternity and parts of the lab integration.

  • What is Huron's role?

Huron Consulting Services UK joined as delivery partner in May 2026. They are working alongside the programme team to design, build and configure the MEDITECH Expanse system for use across all three trusts. Hunter Healthcare is part of the Huron team.
