Wondering what the EPR means for you, your team or your patients?

These are the questions staff are asking us most often. We will continue to add to these questions in the coming months. Use the search box or scroll down to see the most common questions and answers.  If your question isn’t answered here, then get in touch.

  • How does EPR impact disclosure obligations?

Any existing permissions that requires access to records will remain, the process will be via our MEDITECH EPR. There are print and export capabilities in our EPR.

  • What happens to our renal treatment stickers when we have the EPR?

The current treatment stickers record lots of information such as patient information (i.e. dialysis solution, dialysis access, drugs). In the EPR, the document labelling will help staff filter 'all renal activity' in the chart.

  • Where will quality improvement information be stored?

    The existing process will continue.

  • How will audit information be checked and held?

Any data entered into Meditech can be extracted and used for auditing purposes. There is no inbuilt auditing function but there is a report-builder that can assist after EPR stabilisation; essential reports only at go live.

  • How can ICU documentation be recorded in the EPR?

Any information exported from Metavision will be stored in EDMS as per the current process.

  • How will Metavision connect or be used with our EPR?

Metavision is staying. It will not integrate with our EPR but there are documents build for critical care colleagues to handover information on step down.

  • How is a referral accepted and closed in the EPR?

This is covered in EPR demos of the system - see 'The inpatient referral board in the EPR ' on this website. It will be fully covered in training.

  • Will I know if a patient is currently an inpatient?

Yes, you will be able to see if the patient is an inpatient. See the demonstrations 'the inpatient referral board in the EPR' and 'Registering a patient' for more information.

  • Who is helping to shape how information flows between hospitals and practices?

The System Readiness and Integration Group brings together hospital teams, GPs, practice managers, the Local Medical Committee and the Integrated Care Board. It meets regularly to prepare for go-live, including how letters are written, how information reaches practices and what practices need to know in advance.

  • Can practices test the new EPR’s letters before go-live?

Testing with practices has started. We have sent test discharge summaries from the new EPR to a small number of practices, and we plan to do more before go-live. If your practice would like to take part, please get in touch.

  • Is anything changing for ICE?

Not for primary care and community colleagues at go-live. ICE, the system practices use to request tests and see results, stays as it is for you.

  • Will hospital letters and discharge summaries look different?

They may. The new EPR creates letters in a different way, so layout and content can change. We are working with GPs, practice managers, the Local Medical Committee and the Integrated Care Board on letter templates. We will share example letters with partners before go-live and are seeking feedback at our regular meetings.
