The EPR contributes to a number of strategies for the hospital group.

Joint Acute Clinical Strategy for Norfolk and Waveney University Hospitals Group.

The EPR is a central part of the Joint Acute Clinical Strategy for Norfolk and Waveney University Hospitals Group.

The strategy sets out a clinical model for the three hospitals – one that makes the most of working together while preserving what each hospital does best for its local population. Shared digital infrastructure, including the EPR, is one of the foundations that makes that clinical model possible.

The strategy has three levels of ambition: services that can be delivered more effectively closer to home or in collaboration with partners; clinical services that work better when the three trusts coordinate; and consistent standards and technology that remove unwarranted variation across all three sites.

The EPR supports all three by enabling teams across the group to work in the same way and access the same information.

Norfolk and Waveney University Hospitals Digital Roadmap

The digital roadmap for our Norfolk and Waveney University Hospitals Group was launched in June 2026.

It is our shared ambition for how digital technology will support how we care for our patients and the way we work across NNUH, JPUH and QEH over the coming years – a genuine shift towards more connected, more informed, more digital ways of delivering care. The EPR is central to this roadmap and is a major project within the wider programme.

We’ve made a film to introduce it. Senior digital colleagues, each leading a part of the programme, talk you through what’s coming and what it means for you.

It covers the systems that keep our services running safely, how we use and share data and patient information, the software staff will use every day to do their job, how AI and automation will support care in future and the introduction of voice technology that will speed up the production of clinical notes.
