Home › Staff › Role: Managers and leadership teams

If you manage a team, service or department, this page is for you. Our EPR affects your team’s day-to-day work, and getting ready for it is part of your job as a manager. That means planning training time, helping your team adjust during go-live, and knowing where to point people when they have questions.

You don’t need to be a technical expert. You need a clear picture of what’s changing, when, and what support is available, so you can help your team through it.

Ahead of go-live, you’ll get manager-specific briefings covering what to expect and how to prepare your team. You’ll also be able to nominate Champions and Super Users from within your team, so there’s someone close by who knows the system well.

This page brings together the FAQs, news and guidance most relevant to managers and leaders, so you know what to plan for and when.

Managers and leadership teams FAQs

  • What is the difference between the EPR and the Norfolk and Waveney Shared Care Record?

The EPR is the system your hospital teams will use to document and manage your care within the three acute hospitals. The Shared Care Record is a read-only view that a wider group of health and care professionals - including GPs, community nurses and social care teams - can see. They work together, but they are separate systems.

  • Why are the hospitals getting an EPR?

The hospitals are getting an EPR to give patients better care. Today, information about a patient's care can sit across different systems and paper notes, and staff spend time finding and piecing it together. The EPR brings it into one easily accessible place. Nationally, the NHS has set a target for all hospitals to have an EPR in place, and many have already done this. Our hospitals are now joining others to meet this target.

  • If I am worried about the change, what should I do?

Talk to your manager, your trust's EPR change lead, or your Change Network representative. There is no expectation that everyone will feel ready straight away. The programme is designed with that in mind - there will be support before, during and after go-live. Questions you do not have answers to yet are worth raising; the programme team wants to hear them. Speak to the change team at your hospital or contact the EPR Team via the contact form on this website.

  • How will our EPR make care safer?

NWEPR brings together up-to-date clinical information in one place and includes safety features such as alerts for allergies, adverse drug reactions, deterioration and other patient risks, supporting decision making.

  • Will training be face-to-face or online?

We're using a blended approach: classroom sessions, interactive e-learning you can do at your own pace, sessions in or near your workplace, and "at the elbow" help during go-live. The mix depends on what you're learning and what suits your role best.

  • Will all current systems be replaced?

Many will be. Some specialist systems will stay alongside the EPR, with information flowing between them. The EPR will continue to be developed over the coming years with more of our current systems replaced. If you have a question about a specific system please speak to a member of the EPR team.

  • What is Huron's role?

Huron Consulting Services UK joined as delivery partner in May 2026. They are working alongside the programme team to design, build and configure the MEDITECH Expanse system for use across all three trusts. Hunter Healthcare is part of the Huron team.

  • I work bank or agency, or I'm a rotating doctor. Will I be trained?

The programme knows staffing changes, rotations and agency use create training needs at different times, and the plan is being built to accommodate that. The aim is that anyone using the EPR is trained before they use it. Specific arrangements will be confirmed and shared.
