Celebrating the EPR Campaign Launch

Staff at all three acute hospitals were invited to attend the Electronic Patient Record (EPR) online launch event on Wednesday 10 May 2023.

Alongside the online Teams meeting, EPR Teams hosted stands at each hospital this week to celebrate the EPR ‘Better Joined-up Care’ campaign launch and speak to colleagues about the EPR Programme.

Donning sashes and lots of of cakes, the teams spoke to colleagues about engagement opportunities for staff to help shape what the 3-acute hospital EPR will look like, as well as signing staff up to the Change Networks which are being established to help with EPR implementation of the EPR in the future.

The online EPR launch event took place via MS Teams Live with over 300 attendees and staff watching live from venues across the Trusts. Opening the event, Martin Evans, EPR Programme Director said, “now is the right time to communicate what we’re doing with staff across the three acute trusts and look to get your support as we move forward to get the Electronic Patient Record system.”

Dr Ed Prosser-Snelling, EPR Hospital Senior Responsible Officer for NNUH, began by setting some national context around the EPR and discussed how it would help improve health inequalities, improve care for our region’s aging population and support population health management work.

Dr Jack Barker, Chief Clinical Information Officer for King’s College Hospital, joined the event next to share his experiences of an EPR implementation and share insights of things which went well along with lessons for us at the beginning of this work. One of his biggest lessons he says was to take time to reflect and “look back in the mirror” on how far you go on the journey, especially at challenging times. Dr Barker also encouraged people to cherish good staff and spoke about the importance of good relationships when embarking this huge change programme.

Mr Vivek Chitre, Senior Responsible Officer for JPUH, presented the benefits of the EPR and how we hope the system will drive improvements in many areas across the acute hospitals with Emma Harrison, Patient Experience and Public Involvement Lead at QEH, following to explore patient benefits and how we will be engaging with patients around the EPR.

To conclude the event, Dr Govindan Raghuraman, Senior Responsible Officer for QEHKL, presented an overview of the journey ahead sharing a timeline of the EPR Programme whilst encouraging colleagues who are interested in digital health care and change to join the Change Networks and help shape the EPR.

Thank you to everyone who took part in this week’s EPR launch events and to staff who have expressed interest in getting involved in the programme! If you are a member of staff and would like to join the Change Network please complete the form linked here – thank you!
